Frequently Asked Questions

About AcquiLingua

What is AcquiLingua?

AcquiLingua is an AI-powered language learning platform built around conversation practice. Instead of structured lessons, quizzes, or vocabulary drills, AcquiLingua puts you into real conversations in your target language, personalized to your interests and calibrated to your current level. The platform is built on Comprehensible Input theory, the same methodology used by leading language acquisition researchers, including collaborators at USC who have worked directly alongside Dr. Stephen Krashen.

How is AcquiLingua different from other language apps?

Most popular language apps are built around recognition: you see an answer, you pick the right one, you earn points. That produces engagement, not fluency. AcquiLingua is built around production: you generate language in real time, in conversation, about things that actually matter to you. The approach is grounded in how people naturally acquire languages, the same way you acquired your first one.

What languages does AcquiLingua support?

AcquiLingua supports 110 languages and dialects.

What is Comprehensible Input?

Comprehensible Input is a language acquisition theory developed by Dr. Stephen Krashen, Emeritus Professor of Education at USC. The core idea is that people acquire languages not by studying them consciously, but through exposure to real communication in the target language at a level just beyond their current understanding. This is the same process that produced your native language. AcquiLingua is designed to deliver that kind of input consistently, in 110 languages, at your level.

What is Language-by-Emoji?

Language-by-Emoji is AcquiLingua's proprietary approach to vocabulary acquisition. Rather than translating new words through your native language, Language-by-Emoji builds direct associations between words and visual concepts. The goal is to help you reach a point where words in your target language connect directly to what they represent, with no translation step required. That is what fluency feels and sounds like in practice.

What is a Zipf Coverage Score?

A Zipf Coverage Score reflects the percentage of everyday language you can currently understand and produce in your target language. It is based on Zipf's Law, a mathematical pattern discovered by Harvard linguist George Zipf in the 1930s. Word frequency in any language follows a predictable curve, which means that knowing the most common words gives you disproportionate coverage of real conversation. AcquiLingua uses this to prioritize vocabulary that matters most, and your Zipf score tracks your progress in terms that are actually meaningful.

Privacy and Data

Do you store my conversations?

Not as a permanent conversation history. To make chat delivery reliable and prevent duplicate processing, AcquiLingua may temporarily retain limited chat-response content and technical metadata. Completed chat-turn records are marked to expire after about 24 hours; deletion from the active database is asynchronous, and historical table states may remain recoverable during the backup recovery period described in our Privacy Policy. AcquiLingua does not store raw audio recordings as part of normal AI conversation operation. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.

What information does AcquiLingua collect about me?

We collect the information you provide when creating an account (email address, display name, age) and personalization data you optionally share during onboarding. We also process account-linked usage and learning metrics. For chat reliability, we may temporarily retain limited chat-response content, request fingerprints, timestamps, and technical identifiers as described in our Privacy Policy.

Is my data sold to third parties?

No. AcquiLingua does not sell your personal information or your email address to third parties. AcquiLingua may display ads through Google AdSense and AdMob, which can use standard advertising cookies, but that is different from selling your data. You can manage your ad personalization preferences at adssettings.google.com.

Account and Safety

What is the minimum age to use AcquiLingua?

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.

How do I delete my account?

You can permanently delete your account from Profile > Privacy & Account by selecting "Delete account." You can also contact support@acquilingua.com for help with a deletion request. Deletion ends account access and removes or de-identifies personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy; certain payment, fraud-prevention, legal, security, backup, and genuinely anonymized records may be retained as described there.

How do I contact support?

Email support@acquilingua.com. We typically respond within one to two business days.

About the AI

Is the AI always accurate?

No. AcquiLingua's AI is a conversation practice partner, not a reference tool. It is built to give you natural, flowing conversation in your target language. It may occasionally produce an inaccurate fact, an imperfect cultural reference, or an unusual phrasing. For language practice purposes, this does not affect the value of the session. For anything requiring accurate information, use a source built for that purpose.

Can I use AcquiLingua for important decisions or professional advice?

No. Nothing generated by AcquiLingua's AI constitutes professional, medical, legal, financial, or factual advice of any kind. The platform is for language practice only.
